First Annual Northern Hospital Foundation Volunteer Tournament a Success
On Saturday, June 24th, Northern Hospital of Surry County Volunteers partnered with Northern Hospital Foundation to host the First Annual NHSC Foundation Volunteer Golf Tournament at Skyland Lakes Golf Course just off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway in Fancy Gap, VA. Though the week was filled with rain and the remnant of a tropical storm passed just the night before, golfers were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day. Nineteen teams were anxious to tee it up and raise money for the NHSC Volunteer Open Arms - Helping Hands Fund. This year, all monies raised will be used to help fund the renovation of one room on the Medical/Surgical floor at Northern Hospital through the Foundation's Life.Giving.Care Capital Campaign.
Matt Linville, Director of the Northern Hospital Foundation, said, "The volunteers at Northern Hospital are one of our most important assets. They are truly love in motion! The name of their fund, Open Arms - Helping Hands, accurately represents every smile, prayer, kind word, consoling hug, laugh and selfless act they have given to both the patients and staff at Northern. Working together to raise money for the benefit of our patients and their families is a natural fit."
This tournament was not only made possible, but was very successful because of our great sponsors and all those who donated raffle and auction items. Each hole had an official sponsor with an exciting $10,000 putting contest sponsored by & Marketing, Inc. Justin Young, world long-drive competitor and all-around nice guy, was a big hit for golfers who paid him to hit a drive on hole #3, a long Par 5. The most talked about event of the day; the awesome BBQ lunch sponsored by 13 Bones.
Matt went on to say, "We raised several thousand dollars through our first tournament. Several hospital employees and one special volunteer, Carrol Vick, played significant roles in both the planning and execution of this event. We had a great time together and look forward to an even better tournament next year."
A special "Thank You" goes out to each sponsor, player, volunteer and the wonderful staff at Skyland Lakes Golf Course. See you next year!
