First Major Donor to Foundation's Capital Campaign...

    April 1, 2016

Johnson Granite, Inc. Leads the Way in New Hospital Foundation Campaign

Mount Airy, NC – Life.Giving.Care, that’s the motto of the first ever Northern Hospital Foundation Capital Campaign, and the true heart of all things healthcare at Northern Hospital.  The campaign kicked off earlier this month with its first official donation. Northern is the community hospital for those in Surry and surrounding counties in northwest North Carolina along with several southern Virginia counties including Carroll and Patrick.

Phase I of the Life.Giving.Care Capital Campaign has a fundraising goal of $800,000 and is the first phase of a multi-million dollar campaign to fund the renovations of all 133 patient care rooms throughout Northern Hospital. Phase I will focus on a complete facelift of the 40 Medical/Surgical patient rooms located on the second floor of the hospital. The Medical /Surgical patient rooms are for patients who are recovering from general inpatient surgery, orthopedic inpatient surgery, or other acute illness with the average patient staying 2-3 days on the unit.

The planned renovations will enhance the healing environment focused on patient safety, quality of care, and recovery with the ultimate goal of increased patient and family satisfaction.

This month, the campaign’s first major donor was secured thanks to a generous pledge by Brian Johnson, CEO of Johnson Granite, Inc. and his family, including his parents Commissioner Larry and Linda Johnson, and his four sisters, Mary Holt, Karen Coalson, Kimberly Marshall and Lisa Johnson. The donation by the Johnson Family will fund the renovation of the first of 40 rooms on the Medical/Surgical Unit and includes the naming rights to the room which will be named for Johnson Granite, Inc.

“My family and I are excited to be a part of the inaugural Capital Campaign for the hospital. Northern is such a crucial part of our community and it is a privilege to support the hospital in this way. We look forward to watching this project unfold and the impact it will have on patients and their families,” said Brian Johnson.

President and CEO Ned Hill stated, “We are very grateful to Brian Johnson and the entire Johnson Granite Family for their generous donation initiating this wonderful campaign. It has been our pleasure to be of service to our friends and neighbors since 1957 and look forward to many years to come.”

The Life.Giving.Care Capital Campaign is the first major campaign undertaken by the Northern Hospital Foundation since the 501(c)(3) was formed in 1984. In 2015, the Foundation’s first full-time director, Matt Linville, was hired and has begun to raise awareness of the hospital’s needs throughout the community.

“The Life.Giving.Care Capital Campaign is an excellent occasion for businesses and individuals in the community to show support of our local hospital.    There will be naming opportunities available and our Foundation Director, Matt Linville, has hit the ground running by securing the generous donation from the Johnson Family at Johnson Granite,” said Teresa Lewis, Chair of the Board of Trustees’ Foundation Committee.

Foundation Director Matt Linville may be contacted for more information on the Life.Giving.Care Capital Campaign and the Northern Hospital Foundation at 336-783-8484 or visit the Foundation online at www.northernhospitalfoundation.org.
